Siemens has won a contract worth around US$8mn to install a new substation at Khulm in northern Afghanistan
The project, which will supply the area with electricity and link the country?s northern towns, was awarded by Afghanistan?s Ministry of Energy and Water.
The scope of the deal includes engineering, procurement, supply, installation testing and commissioning of a substation at Khulm, which will be installed on the North East Power System (NEPS) and will be connected with a 220kV transmission line being fed from Uzbekistan.
Funding for the project, which is expected to be completed within two years, will be arranged by German Financial Cooperation via KfW, a German government-owned development bank.
