The Musandam Power Company has awarded Finnish engineering company P?yry an engineer services agreement for the Musandam Independent Power Project (IPP)
According to the agreement, the design review of the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor documentation as well as technical and site supervision services will be carried out by the Finnish engineering consultant.

The Musandam IPP is being established by Oman Oil Company and its South Korean partner LG International Corporation. The Musandam peninsula is separated from the rest of Oman, due to which its electricity grid is also independent from the Omani national grid. Being the sole power supplier, the Musandam IPP must also have very high reliability and availability. Its designed to run primarily with natural gas but also to accept diesel fuel as back-up.
The upcoming project is expected to substitute the existing diesel-powered generation facilities in the Omani governorate. The fast-track project is scheduled to be completed by the end of Q4 2016.
