Airplane manufacturer Airbus has signed a provisional agreement with Kuwait Airways to supply the airline 25 new aircraft worth US$4.4bn
According to Reuters, the Kuwaiti flag carrier has signed a tentative deal with Airbus to buy 10 of its A350-900 planes and 15 of its medium-haul A320neo jets.
The deal comes after a year of negotiations and is the airline?s biggest overhaul since 1990, said company sources.
The Kuwaiti government recently approved the privatisation of Kuwait Airways.
Earlier this year, in the Dubai Airshow, Airbus won a US$23bn contract from Emirates to supply the airline 50 of its A380s.
Etihad Airways has also ordered for 87 Airbus planes worth US$26.9bn, while Qatar Airways has placed an order for five new Airbus A330-200 freighter aircraft worth about US$2.8bn.
Airbus?s new 350-seat model, the A350-1000, is due to enter service in 2017.
