The National Policy on Biofuels has been adopted by the UAE Cabinet
The goal of the strategy is to further diversify the energy mix and offer sustainable fuel alternatives. It was designed by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) in collaboration with its strategic partners in the public and private sectors.
Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said, “The policy will play an important role in our decarbonisation drive. It will contribute to reducing carbon emissions through increasing the consumption of biodiesel by 20% by 2050. It will lower the carbon footprint of diesel cars by 75% in case of consuming biodiesel by 100%.”
The Minister mentioned that MoEI collaborates with its partners to create rules and guidelines to monitor the distribution of biofuels, set guidelines for their production and use, and put policies and directives for biofuel production in the nation into effect.
He emphasised that the policy advances the goals of the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative as well as the National Energy and Water Demand-side Management Programme.
He added that the policy “will enhance the implementation of circular economy principles in various sectors, such as infrastructure, mobility, and manufacturing, and will drive economic growth through using waste as input for production.”
