Wilo navigates road to COP28 and highlights hydrogen plant solutions

Wilo Middle East highlighted its sustainable initiatives at the AHK Sustainability Talks

The pump manufacturer took part in the ‘AHK Sustainability Talks on the Road to COP28’, which was organised by the German Embassy and the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK). The event took place on October 11, 2023, at the Rosewood in Abu Dhabi, and focused on the theme of decarbonisation in the industry.

Jens Dallendoerfer, CSO for Emerging Markets at Wilo Middle East, said, “One of the primary objectives of Ambition 2025 is to achieve a substantial reduction of 50 million tonnes in carbon emissions by the year 2025. In order to attain this ambitious goal, Wilo has effectively integrated sustainability into its core business model and day-to-day operations. This strategic transformation aligns with Wilo’s unwavering commitment to developing products that not only enhance access to clean water but also promote energy efficiency through cutting-edge technologies. The innovative products and solutions of Wilo are poised to make a significant impact by notably reducing CO2 emissions, with an estimated annual energy savings of 1.8 TWh through the use of high-efficiency pumps.” 

By 2025, Wilo aims to achieve climate-neutral production at its sites under the scope of the Ambition 2025 initiative. This project includes researching novel ideas like the H2 power plant in addition to implementing PV systems to produce electricity. Hydrogen holds a significant place in Wilo's overall strategy and is essential to their environmental activities. Wilo is lowering its carbon footprint by using its photovoltaic systems to generate climate-neutral hydrogen on-site. Dallendoerfer also talked about how important pumps will be to the hydrogen market in the future. Wilo has acknowledged the strategic significance of hydrogen technologies and systems in the context of pump systems. Wilo added that it will encourage the worldwide production, use, and distribution of clean hydrogen.
