Saudi Arabia has set aside a budget of US$109bn to achieve its plans to meet one-third of the countrys energy demands using renewable energy by 2032
Saudi Arabia has laid out details of its plans in a series of documents containing the revised National Energy Plan, released by the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy recently.
According to the documents, in addition to solar power, Saudi Arabia will also look at using geothermal energy and wind power to fulfil its target of producing energy through renewable resources within the next two decades, as well as increasing its focus on nuclear energy.
The country has plans to produce 41GW of solar power, 25GW of concentrated solar power, 16GW of PV, 18GW of nuclear energy, three gigawatt of waste to energy, one gigawatt of geothermal power and nine gigawatt of wind power, specifically for water desalination plants.
The issue will also top the agenda at the upcoming third annual Solar Arabia Summit to be held in Riyadh in September this year.
The summit will see international and regional renewable energy experts discuss the key challenges faced by Saudi Arabia in the area and steps towards overcoming them.
