Dubais Satwa Reservoir Park is set to become the emirates first solar-powered park by the end of 2014, relying on solar energy to operate its lights and integrated irrigation network

According to municipal officials, 20 per cent of the project has been completed and it will open in nine months' time.

Taleb Abdul Karim Julfar, director of the public parks and horticulture department at Dubai Municipality, said, ?Dubai?s parks are the most important and busiest places in the country, in terms of the number of visitors and events organised by various community groups on special occasions, such as holidays and celebrations.?

Satwa Reservoir Park covers an area of 15,000 square metres and the 40-metre high water reservoir tank and several basic facilities will be maintained, added officials.

The park was built in 1980 and considered a landmark mainly due to the water reservoir tower.

Julfar added that the plan to revamp the park is part of Dubai Municipality's strategy to expand green areas and provide entertainment services.
