The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Emirates Solar Industry Association (ESIA) have completed the first solar power facility inside an existing power plant in Jebel Ali

The 10kW rooftop system has been installed in DEWA's main power generation complex in Jebel Ali Power Plant. The estimated energy at the inverter output is 18,000 kWh. The clean electricity produced by this solar system will help offset 9.5 tonnes of harmful CO2 emissions annually.
This initiative is part of a research collaboration between DEWA and ESIA to measure the performance of roof-top solar systems in Dubai in different weather conditions and based on different cleaning techniques.
"This partnership is in line with the energy diversification strategy adopted by the supreme council of energy, in which solar energy is set to become part of Dubai's energy portfolio," said Saeed Mohammed Al-Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
The ESIA project consortium was led by Enviromena, a UAE-based solar systems provider. The panels were provided by Trina Solar. The mounting structure was built by Hilti and the inverter was provided by Schneider Electric. Meteo-Control gave the monitoring equipment which will allow DEWA to measure the performance of the system virtually and continuously.
Vahid Fotuhi, president of ESIA, said, "We are honoured to partner with DEWA to measure how effectively solar power can help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels."
