A consortium led by ACWA Power International, has signed a US$1 billion contract with the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN) to provide Morocco with electricity from the country?s first solar-thermal power plant

Under the agreement, the North African nation?s government will buy power for 25 years from a 160MW plant being developed by the Saudi Arabia-based developer alongside Spain-based Aries Ingenieria & Sistemas SA and TSK Electricidad SA.

ACWA picked Acciona SA and Sener Grupo de Ingenieria SA to design and build the plant in September this year.

The power project is part of MASEN?s larger Independent Power Project, which aims to develop a 500MW solar park at the Ouarzazate Solar Complex. Located near Marrakesh, the solar park will be composed of several utility-scale power plants using various solar technologies.
