Siemens has received an order to supply two SST5-5000 steam turbines, two air-cooled SGen5-1200A generators and the turbine control system to Attarat steam power plant in Jordon, which will be built in the dessert of Attarat Um Ghudran and is expected to become operational in mid-2020

Jordon is one of the most water-scarce countries in the world and Siemens? air-cooled condenser is aimed to address the lack of water at the site by saving up to 90 per cent of the water needed for the operation of the power plant with the use of a wet cooling system.

According to Siemens, the low-pressure SST5-5000 compact steam turbines generator consists of one combined high-intermediate pressure and one low pressure module, which help to deliver effective performance for a steam power plant.

Jean Claude Nasr, head of sales for the Middle East and North Africa region at Siemens Power and Gas, said, ?The efficient use of water is a decisive challenge for this project and with our modern technology we will provide the right equipment to achieve the highest electricity output and simultaneously save precious resources.

?Along with our partner, we will support the government?s plan to provide a reliable power supply and make Jordan less reliant on imported electricity.?

China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Power Engineering Co., Ltd. (Energy China GPEC) is the general contractor involved in the construction of the power plant.

The Attarat power plant is expected to generate 470MW of electricity that can be connected to Jordon?s power grid, covering up to 15 per cent of the country?s annual power demand.

?Siemens is the reliable partner to face the challenges of this demanding power plant project,? said Wenfeng Zhang, deputy general manager at Energy China GPEC.

?They provide proven power plant technology and vast experience in project management. Together we will help increase Jordan?s power generation capacities and lay the foundation for the future development of the country,? added Zhang.
