Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has opened the Warsan Complex and Al Qusais Control Centre, which supports the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by the authoritys president, Rashid al Maktoum
The 60,401-square metre complex has two transmission and distribution control centres and will automate systems for the needs of urban expansion projects and will cater to the growing demand for electricity and water services, DEWA said.
Al Maktoum said, "We provide world-class services at the highest levels of reliability, quality and best international practices and technologies, to ensure the continuity of electricity and water services and achieve sustainable development in the UAE."
According to industry sources, the transmission and distribution control systems will maintain the required electricity reserves for emergency cases to provide quick intervention to solve blackouts, and co-ordinate with various departments for swift power recovery and power exchange co-ordination with other Emirates.
A multi-site system that provides alternative technical and geographical systems has been installed to counter emergencies and minimise the impact of unwarranted outages.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, chairman of DEWA, said, "The separation of control centres facilitate seamless monitoring of the overall performance of the electric voltage. This has enabled us to adopt two smart programmes for transmission and distribution which will help complete the Smart Grid project efficiently, and meet the requirements of transmitting power through the National Emirates network."
