French energy firm Alstom has won a contract worth US$227mn in Saudi Arabia to supply steam turbine generators for the Shuqaiq power plant

Alstom was awarded the contract by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the lead contractor of the project.

As part of the contract, the French firm will supply four 720MW steam turbine generator sets for the plant, which is expected to begin commercial operations in 2017.

Alstom?s contract will include the engineering, manufacturing, supply and field services for all four of the steam turbines and generators and will also include all direct control and auxiliary systems.

The 2,650MW Shuqaiq power plant, located on Saudi?s Red Sea coast, will be run on heavy fuel oil.

The contract is Alstom?s second Saudi Arabian energy deal this year. Five months ago, the French firm was selected to supply five 620MW steam turbines, generators, supercritical boilers, electrostatic precipitators and flue gas desulphurisation systems for the Yanbu 3 plant in the country.
