Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth US$32mn with Oman Aluminium Rolling Company (OARC) for a coil coating plant in Sohar

The construction of the plant will commence in May 2014 and is expected to be completed mid-2015. The coil coating plant is part of OARC?s overall new rolling facilities that began commercial operations this year, with the plant hitting its full 160,000-tonne production capacity by 2019.

In a statement, Jos? Antonio L?pez-Mon?s, CEO of HLG, said that the plant project is an important milestone for the group as it is the first EPC project that HLG has been awarded in Sohar.

?Oman is an important market for HLG and we are grateful to have been selected by OARC to build their plant facility.?

The facility is being developed as a downstream unit to OARC?s rolling mill with a capacity of 25,000 tonne per annum. The coil coating plant will be located directly across the road from the existing rolling mill plant in Sohar Industrial Estate on its own plot of approximately 100,000 square metres.

In addition to the coil coating process building, the facility will encompass a wastewater treatment plant, natural gas reducing station, scrap yard, solid waste yard, hazardous waste area, pond, administration building, canteen, warehouse and other site amenities, the Omani company added.
