Global Pipe Company (GPC), a Saudi-German joint venture, announced that the new production facility being built in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia will be complete by Q2 2012.
Directors Board Meeting
The update on the project was provided at the company's latest Directors Board Meeting. The board expressed their satisfaction with the overall progress of the project which is now 45 per cent and is on schedule to meet the deadline of commissioning. The total investment for the project is US$174mn.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Riyadh Al-Rabiah from Saudi Steel Pipe Company (Chairman of the board), Mr. Christoph Schorge from EEW ? Germany (Vice Chairman), Mr. Ahmed Al-Khonaini (Managing Director), Mr. Kurt Reichow from EEW ? Germany (Board Member) and Mr. Khalid Al-Hamdan from Pan Gulf Holding Company (Board Member).
The purpose of the new production facility for GPC is to target the oil and gas sector as well as offshore and structural applications. GPC manufactures quality Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded Steel Pipes (LSAW) in Saudi Arabia, with diameters ranging from 16" ? 62" and heavy wall thickness of 8mm ? 51mm, for the transporting and processing oil and gas.
Local demand and export market
GPC also manufactures extremely large size pipes with outside diameters of 40" ? 200" and thickness of up to 130mm for the offshore industries and structural tubular applications such as wind power towers.
The majority of LSAW Steel Pipes in Saudi Arabia are currently imported. GPC, with a capacity of 200,000 MT annual production, will be able to meet local demand and even cater for the export market.
