Logistics company Gulftainer has received four ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 12 rubber-tyred gantries (RTG) at the Khorfakkan Container Terminal in the UAE

The delivery of the new cranes and gantries will significantly improve the terminal?s overall productivity, stated Gulftainer officials. With an investment exceeding US$60mn, the equipment has already begun operations after being delivered on-site fully-assembled and commissioned.

The cranes are equipped with complete PLC (programmable logic control), and features user-friendly operator interfaces. In addition, the new cranes also have climate-controlled ergonomic operator cabs, which can maximise the comfort of the operators and consequently, boost performance.

Steve Ogden, operations director of Gulftainer, said, ?The addition of these advanced crane systems at KCT underlines our commitment to further strengthen our operations at the terminal, which has defined its credentials as one of the world?s most productive hubs for container operations. We continuously invest in our facilities to strengthen the efficiency of operations and maximise productivity.?

Gultainer officials said that the new STS cranes are larger and designed to cope with vessels exceeding 18,000 TEU. They can additionally provide greater flexibility in their operations, which would help speed up terminal operations.
