Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has moved its fleet of tug boats to UAEs classification society TASNEEF, becoming the first UAE company to do so

TASNEEF, established in 2012, is the first classification authority in UAE and GCC, responsible for issuing certificates to vessels. These certificates declare safety of vessels and their compliance with SOLAS (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea), and MARPOL (the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships).

Contracts issued by TASNEEF cover each vessel for five years, stated ADPC. According to the contracts, TASNEEF can inspect and confirm if the vessels adhere to internationally accredited technical standards, and conduct regular surveys on the vessels as well.

Hamad Al Maghrabi, GM of ADPC Marine Services, said, ?We are keen to support TASNEEF and are confident that the company will provide the services and expertise that we need. TASNEEF is a customer-focused company and we are delighted to be its first UAE maritime customer.?

Industry analysts have predicted that the Middle East will become one of the top 20 global trade lanes in the next 20 years. ADPC has said that it plans to increase its tug fleet in the near future, and intends to register additional vessels with TASNEEF.

Rashed Al Hebsi, CEO of TASNEEF, said, ?We hope other national companies to follow ADPC, by registering and classifying their ships in the UAE. Doing this will enhance the capability of UAE fleet and will be benefit international forums and organisations.?
