Etihad Rail has signed a strategic agreement with the UAE?s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) that will focus on securing adequate railway infrastructure and defining contractual responsibilities

The agreement was signed by Nasser Ahmed Alsowaidi, chairman of Etihad Rail and Mattar Al Tayer, executive director of RTA.

Securing railway alignments, station locations and defining the contractual and operational responsibilities for both parties would be the main outcome of the agreement, stated officials from Etihad Rail.

Nasser Ahmed Alsowaidi said, ?We are delighted to cooperate with the RTA and sign the agreement, which will assist Etihad Rail in developing the national rail network on time. In the past five years, Etihad Rail has managed to lay well-established foundations for its operations. Strengthening communication channels with other government entities will guarantee the efficient development of the project, which will transform the transport industry across the UAE and drive our nation?s future growth.?

RTA will assign representatives to coordinate the issuing of non-objection certificates (NOCs) of road work required by Etihad Rail, in line with the timelines agreed upon by both companies.

Meanwhile, Etihad Rail has agreed to carry out technical studies and present findings in the form of architectural reports and blueprints to the concerned government authorities in Dubai. Any modifications in rail alignment and surrounding areas will also be reported to the RTA. Both organisations have agreed to comply to general standards of safety.
