Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways has expanded its code sharing agreement with Korean Air, South Korea?s national airline, giving passengers more access to destinations in the Middle East, South Africa and Asia
According to the Khaleej Times, Etihad Airways passengers will now be able to travel from Seoul Incheon to Honolulu, Vancouver and Hong Kong. In return, Korean Air fliers will be able to travel from Abu Dhabi to Johannesburg, Muscat and, subject to government approval, Khartoum.
In 2009, Etihad Airways and Korean Air signed a special pro-rata agreement and interline partnership. The airlines commenced code share operations between Abu Dhabi and Seoul Incheon on 22 July 2013.
Etihad Airways chief executive officer James Hogan said, ?The three new code share destinations enhance the airline's business and leisure travel to the Asia Pacific region and North America.?
He added that agreements with carriers like Korean Air helped the country enhance its tourism profile, which is a key objective of Abu Dhabi?s 2030 plan.
Last year, Etihad Airways carried 10.2mn passengers through Abu Dhabi, Khaleej Times reported.
