UAE-based Ghantoot Transport and General Contracting has been awarded a US$285mn road contract in Oman

The contract is the first part of the Adam-Thumrait road dualisation project, stated a report in the Times of Oman. The project involves upgrading the existing single carriageway into a four-lane dual carriageway, which would help ease traffic congestion between the two Omani towns, added the report.

The second part of the contract worth US$236mn has been awarded to Consolidated Contractors Company, which is one of the largest construction companies in the Middle East.

The 715 km-long road between the towns of Adam and Thumrait has been divided into several segments. The first two parts of the highway are 240 km long in total. Project officials stated that it would take three-and-a-half years to complete the stretch.
