RTA awarded BIM certificate for effective management of asset data

BSI, business standards company, has awarded Kitemark for building information modelling (BIM) certificate to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, recognising its endeavours to nurture an advanced asset management environment

RTA is the first government entity worldwide for obtaining the BIM certificate.

While accepting the certificate from Philip Parham, British consul general in the UAE, Mattar Al Al Tayer, director general and chairman of the board of executive directors of RTA, said, ?This certificate prompts us to enhance the effective communication between RTA?s officials and entities of relevance to our scope of business. Thus, it paves the way for taking non-conventional decisions and assists us in realising our interests in a short time in line with the smart government initiative.?

?The initiative seeks to rank Dubai as the smartest city in the world using state-of-the-art techniques for achieving distinctive government performance,? Al Tayer added.

The Kitemark for BIM has BSI has recently been launched by BSI aiming to help the asset management industry to integrate BIM into their processes.

Commenting on the certificate, Wajdi Mereb, chief specialist and BIM Manager at RTA, said, ?This will absolutely help us to demonstrate to our supply chain that the industry recognised processes and procedures for BIM are fully embedded into our organisation.?

Speaking about RTA?s achievement of BIM certification, Saeed Al Ramsi, director of Asset in RTA, said, ?This certificate is a true reflection of the advanced level achieved by RTA in building information modelling over the past three years in terms of carrying out the analyses required, developing viable strategic plans and manuals and the starting of the practical implementation of the BIM in several strategic projects.?

Recently, the BSI specialist assessment team have visited RTA for evaluating system application procedures for five consecutive days and reported that the implementation of the BIM fulfilled the standard at RTA.
