The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee has announced consulting and engineering firms Aecom and Ramboll will deliver the new Al Rayyan Stadium for the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Aecom has been appointed project manager and Ramboll the design consultant for the stadium. Both companies will be supervised by CH2M Hill, the committee's programme management consultant.

Al Rayyan Stadium, also known as Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, will be an open air stadium with a capacity of 40,000, and will include a new modular top-tier that can be disassembled after the World Cup. The modular units will be made available to build facilities in developing countries.

According to the event organisers, the stadium will have a natural grass pitch and will sustainable technology will be utilised to cool the arena. The area around the stadium will also be developed to contain 'environmentally-friendly' cooling, as well as training sites and a nearby fan zone. The committee also said that all contracts on the stadium would include its Workers' Welfare Standards conditions.

Hassan Al Thawadi, secretary general of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, said, "We are looking forward to working with our partners on Al Rayyan Stadium to build a sporting facility that serves the local community and Al Rayyan Sports Club."

The contract is the second picked up so far on the 2022 FIFA World Cup by Aecom, which is also a design consultant for Al Wakrah Stadium designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.

John Dionsio, chairman of Aecom, said, "We are honoured to be entrusted with such a high-profile programme that is establishing Qatar as an international sports venue and is a beacon for sports development in the Middle East."
