Saudi Arabia's biggest solar project completed

China?s Suntech Power Holdings has announced the completion of construction work on Saudi Arabias largest solar power facility

The new solar PV project site, which is capable of generating 3.5MW, is owned by Saudi Aramco and located in the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre (KAPSARC).

Solar specialist Phoenix Solar utilised Suntech?s solar panels to complete the solar field, which is comprised of 12,684 Suntech panels and covers an area of 55,000 square metres.

Ron Shen, vice president of Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa at Suntech, said, ?This project represents an important milestone in the development of the solar industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.?

Klaus Friedl, Phoenix Solar?s head of its Middle East operations, added, ?We are pleased to complete this historic project which will provide clean, renewable energy for KAPSARC as well as for the Saudi Arabian grid."
