Japan?s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited and France?s Areva have won a contract to build Turkey?s second nuclear power plant
Turkey?s Energy and Natural Resources Ministry awarded the deal to the consortium to build four pressurised water nuclear reactors with a combined capacity of about 4.5GW at Sinop on the Black Sea, Reuters reported.
Construction on the US$20bn project is expected to start in 2017, with the first reactor slated to come online by 2023. France?s GDF Suez has been selected to operate the plant.
Russia?s Rosatom will start construction on Turkey?s first nuclear power station at Mersin Akkuyu on the Mediterranean Coast in mid-2015.
The facility is expected to start producing electricity in 2019, a Rosatom spokesperson said.
