Iraq to add 80MW to electrical network through new power plant project

Iraq?s Ministry of Electricity has announced the inauguration of the Qudos gas power station project, which is expected to add power of up to 80MW to the network

Musab al-Mudares, spokesman for the ministry, said, ?The ministry?s engineering and technical staff in Qudos Power Plant was able to complete the maintenance of the ninth unit with a power of 80MW.?

Mudares said that this aimed at improving power production and capacity rising in preparation for summer.

The station, established in 2002 by GE, consists of 10 units that run on gas and crude oil.

Iraq has been suffering from electricity shortage since 1990. Currently, the country produces 20,000MW of electricity.
