Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has named a consortium of TAV, Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and Arabtec Holding as the preferred bidder for the construction of the Midfield Terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport
ADAC has said it is now in discussions with the consortium over the final details of the contract before the official signing in June 2012.
The TAV-CCC-Arabtec consortium was chosen from six prequalified groups that bid for the contract in November 2011.
ADAC chairman Khalifa Al Mazrouei said, ?By announcing the preferred bidder, the company is on-track to deliver a sustainable aviation infrastructure, capable of catering to the growing air transport needs of the Emirate.?
The 700,000 sqm terminal building is on-track to be completed in 2017.
The terminal structure will be built from 70,000 tonnes of steel, more than 1.6 million tonnes of concrete, and nearly 500,000 sqm of steel and glass cladding.
The new terminal will initially be able handle 30 million passengers per year, but its passenger capacity will be able to accommodate up to 47 million passengers as traffic is forecasted to grow strongly over the next 20 years. The airports growth rate over the past five years was 19.7 per cent, according to ADAC.
?Abu Dhabi is experiencing remarkable development in the air transport sector and business tourism industries and has positioned it as a hub for international commerce and travel,? Al Mazrouei added.
